About the Moisture-Plus Cover Model 160

The Moisture-Plus cover is the premium replacement cover in the Thermophore line. Like the standard Moist-Sure Fleece cover, it absorbs humidity from the surrounding air and releases it as therapeutic steam when the pad heats up. The key upgrade is the moisture pocket: a built-in sleeve that accepts a lightly damp washcloth, allowing you to add supplemental moisture for deeper steam in dry climates (AZ, NV, UT, NM), at high altitude, or in heavily air-conditioned rooms where ambient humidity is too low for the cover to draw enough moisture from the air alone.

The Model 160 is also machine washable and non-shrinkable — a practical advantage over the standard Moist-Sure Fleece cover (Model 162), which requires hand washing and can shrink if machine washed. In most homes with normal humidity, the cloth is optional; the cover works automatically. But having the pocket available makes this the more versatile choice for any climate.

How the Moisture-Plus Cover Produces Moist Heat 1 Between sessions, the cotton/fleece blend absorbs humidity from the surrounding air automatically. No water is needed in most homes. 2 In dry climates or heavy A/C (AZ, NV, UT, NM, or any room where humidity is low), lightly dampen the included washcloth and insert it into the moisture pocket before positioning the pad. This provides supplemental steam even when ambient humidity is insufficient. 3 When the pad heats up, it activates the absorbed moisture into therapeutic steam that penetrates deeper into muscles and joints than dry heat alone. Will a new cover restore moist heat to my old Thermophore?

If your Thermophore still heats up properly but no longer produces moist heat, a new cover may restore the moist heat function. The cover is the component that absorbs humidity and produces steam. However, if the pad itself has stopped heating or heats unevenly, the issue is with the heating element and a new cover will not fix that.

Is the Moisture-Plus cover machine washable?

Yes. Unlike the standard Moist-Sure Fleece cover (Model 162), which must be hand washed to prevent shrinkage, the Moisture-Plus cover (Model 160) is machine washable and non-shrinkable. Remove the cloth from the moisture pocket before washing, and air dry the cover before returning it to the pad.

Is it a good idea to keep a spare cover?

Yes. Even though the Model 160 is machine washable, the cover still needs to dry and reabsorb humidity from the air before your next session. Having a spare means you can wash one while using the other, so you always have a moisture-ready cover on hand.
